Things to do (and eat) in Toronto this weekend

Last year we had such an amazing time doing a Toronto food crawl for our birthdays that we decided to do it for our 4 year wedding anniversary too!

The Plan

Things to do, places to eat

The day started off with brunch at White Lily and then we walked around the Leslieville area. Leslieville has some great shops including the Arts Market that features a lot of local artists’ work. Then we drove over to Shangri-La where we were staying the night and also booked a couples massage at the Miraj Hammam Spa. After our massage we headed over to Isabella’s Mochi Donut boutique and got half a dozen mochi donuts. We walked it all off once we got to Dainties for their macaron ice cream sandwiches. We walked that off too with a quick stroll around the Eaton Centre, just in time for our 4 course kaiseki at Minami.

Here’s a quick review of each of the spots:

  • White Lily Diner – I was drawn to White Lily because of their rosti potatoes. Little did I know, the star of the show ended up being their donuts! We ordered a pair of donuts, one with a lemon custard filling and topped with a méringue and the other was apple fritter. Homemade, fresh and soft.
  • Arts Market – We passed by the Arts Market close by that we strolled through. I love buy local and seeing the work of local artists. Here I picked up 4 cute and punny cards created by @gotomago.
  • Shangri-La & Miraj Hammam Spa – We had a great experience, service was excellent for both hotel and spa. The massage itself was good, but can’t say exceptional. Their breakfast was delicious, we always do breakfast in bed the next morning. There’s no better way to start the day!
  • Isabella Mochi Donuts – Soft and chewy mochi donuts with new flavours every week! My favourite flavour was warabi.
  • Dainties Macarons – The last time we had a macaron ice cream sandwich was in Seoul at Paris Baguette so this was such a treat and they had so many other flavours too. I got the milk tea one and a few other small macarons that tasted great even the day after!
  • Minami Toronto – We never had the opportunity to have kaiseki in Japan so this was a treat. Each of their courses were unique and delicious.
