Part 1: Self-Guided Food Crawl Toronto, ON

The Roadtrip Girl started as a blog to encourage Torontonians to explore their own city more. It’s since evolved into a road trip blog offering travel guides to international cities. However, with the current situation, we’re going back to the basics: local Toronto road trips and finding the best places to eat in Toronto.

In part 1 of this 2 part blog post, we explore Downtown Toronto and introduce you to a few delicious food spots we tried in celebration of our September birthdays 🙂

Downtown Toronto

  • Royal Ontario Museum – The ROM currently has a Winnie-the-Pooh exhibit! Did you know, Winnie was named after Winnipeg?
  • Blue Banana Market – I love shopping at stores like Blue Banana that features local artists. Of course I picked up a little gift or two for myself.
  • Hanabusa Cafe* – Last year we were so into Fuwa Fuwa but Hanabusa’s Earl Grey Salted Carmel Pancake has them beat. Highly recommended stop on this food crawl.
  • El Trompo – While the tacos and nachos we ordered looked a bit bland, we loved the flavour. We ordered everything to share so that we could eat more at our other stops 🙂
  • Omusubi Bar – Omusubi Bar (and Flame & Smoke) are little food stalls located by Alexandra Park. Omusubi offered a variety of Japanese rice balls stuffed with fillings like wasabi salmon. I had the rice ball with tuna and a burdock miso soup.
  • Flame & Smoke – We ordered deep fried mac & cheese balls and a fresh lemonade. The perfect combination.
  • Raku* – By the time we got to Raku, I was stuffed so I tried a side of tofu (which was delicious) and stole a few bites of Carl’s udon. The texture of the udon was so chewy yet soft. Another one that we highly recommend.
  • DZO Viet Eatery – There was so much hype from BlogTo about DZO’s Pho Poutine that I was left a little underwhelmed. There wasn’t the much soup base flavour in the gravy but their chicken wings were fried perfectly.
  • University of Toronto campus – And we ended our day with a nice early fall stroll through the St. George campus to walk off all the food. I also grabbed a pullover (no, it’s a cardigan but thanks for noticing!) at the bookstore since it got cooler in the late afternoon.

*Highly recommended

Hope you enjoy the tour! We loved every bit of our day, we ate, walked off the food and ate some more. It’s all about smaller portions so you don’t stuff yourself at 1 place lol. Don’t forget to support your local small businesses, wherever you are!
